It is characterized by small, intense blue star-shaped flowers with yellow centers that are surrounded by thin, sword-shaped iris-like slender leaves. 'Lucerne' blooms profusely through spring and has larger flowers than the species. They prefer consistently moist, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade and will benefit from a good layer of mulch.
