Blanket flowers are aptly named for their habit to blanket the ground with rich, colorful blooms from summer to autumn. 'Arizona Red Shades' was selected for its dark red disk flowers that attract butterflies and brighten the perennial border. Mounds of sage green leaves are hidden under the large blossoms and are often seen sprouting up in other places as the plant self seeds freely. Blanket flowers do best in average, well-drained soils in full sun and are quite tolerant of drought, dry soils, and other such conditions once established. Blanket flower may be best suited as an annual in some landscapes.
