Commonly seen as street trees or used for dappled shade, honeylocust are indigenous to the United States and are prized for their adaptability and durability. They prefer moist, well drained soils in full sun, however they tolerate a wide range of growing sites, including: drought, clay soils, salts, high heat, humidity, and wind. Small, medium-green leaflets make up the majority of the canopy and when autumn arrives, turn a brilliant golden yellow. Shademaster® is a thornless, seedless cultivar that is more vase shaped with upright branching. Spider mite resistant.
Gleditsia triacanthos is an Iowa native.
