'Armstrong' maple was selected for its narrow, upright shape. Branches of this maple also tend to grow upright, forming tight branching angles. The leaves tend to resemble silver maples (one of the parents in this hybrid) and turn a burnt orange/red fall color if environmental conditions are right; otherwise it can have yellow shades. Few diseases or insect problems, maples thrive in average, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade and prefer to be on the wetter side. They do tolerate some drought conditions with age.
